I know! I painted that frickin Matzah so many times! Eh oh well, they just confirmed that it will be on the cover so I am happy about that!

Yeah I think you are right, the green stuff takes too much attention, I forgot to blur it(doy!) I tried to put it more red in the shadows but it didnt look right, next time I will think of where I want the eye to go.

Let's face it, the right hand looks like poop. I don't know why but I did a really bad job on it. I couldn't get it too look good no mater what I did. The ref was my own hands, and im not sure which part of the hand you mean. I think I shouldn't have been lazy and took a picture or something...

Thanx for the feedback! I was starting to feel like I was living in a vacum!

Patrick, I must say that Roman knows anatomy much better than I do. My knowledge of anatomy is actually very limited. There is obviously a problem in the drawing of the right hand. The concavity in the upper part of the thumb and the round line for the bottom edge look weird. Here is the link to the drawings that I tried to do to figure out what's wrong. I realized that drawing with the left hand is quite difficult, so I understand why it was challenging to make that hand look right. Roman, just one thing that I want to make clear among all the nitpicking is that it's already an achievement that this image will be on the cover of the magazine, and I am very proud of you.

Patrick, I was referring to my own comments, since I am not sure of how to fix the problem. I believe that your critique was right to the point and I would never call that nitpicking (common, you know me). And I would love to see your direct suggestions for my own posts as well, since I do respect your opinion, and find it helpful.

Hey guys thanx for the comments. As long as it comes from the heart, I am open, and actually want comments if you have something to say. I don' know if having this illustration on the cover is an accomplishment, but doing 3 matzah illustrations without going crazy? NOW THAT'S AN ACCOMPLISHEMT PEOPLE!!!!!

The magazine is called Farbrengen, it focuses and jewish issues, religious and cultural, can't wait to see the final cover printed!

Hi, there everyone.
I have difficulties with referring to my own body parts as reference, too, but it's always the readiest of sources. If I need a left hand, I try to look at my left. If I need a right hand, I try to look at my left in a mirror. (I'm No good at left handed drawing.) I find it helps me with my quick reference sketches :).

Yeah, this off center comp is no good for me either. Unfortunately I had to do it. They gave me a specific comp to follow, and I had to adhere to it. I didn't even want to do any of illustrations I did for them in the beginning, the comps were made by another artist. It seems as if the businness of illustration can get pretty crappy, I basically had very little leeway in what I could do. If anyone wants to see the comp Ill put it up, it is actually interesting to see that vs the final.

Hey Ro, this isn't bad. The only nitpicking I'll do concerns the right hands position. Considering that the figure itself is essentially non-visible, I substituted it with myself (because I had no choice) and attached the visible extremities onto myself. The hardest part was the amputation.
Ok, ok... so think it would be rather uncomfortable to hold a matzah this way, unless, of course, some unseen figure, about 3 inches shorter than I, had my right elbow on his head for some unknown reason. Or some guy just randomly came by out of the blue and slapped your elbow upwards for kicks. What a travesty that would be. Just a thought.

Diggin' the vibe in the background. Im currently bathing in it's atmosphere. Think I might jack a camel, pick up some chicas...you know. I partially agree with Patrick on the matzah bag thing. I think the crinkles are more formulaic than they are consistently repetitive though. What causes a bit of that are ,particularly, the two triangular crinkles on the upper mid, and left. I think they protrude bit more than the Matzah inside needs them to, and are the two crinkles that are most consistent. But whatever man... let's eat, let's fiesta, let's break shit...you know? You shizzat is gonna be on a Mag bro!

Cheers amigo!

Thanx guys, this is the kind of critique that is missing for me in my life. I realized that nitpicking was the only way to critique this image since it has a lot of subtle problems. I had a lot of time to ponder on what everyone said, I learned a lot! Let it not be sad that you did a bad piece! Let it be happy if you learned something from it! AND I DID.

Pat I know you think we are at a point where we can teach ourselves and don't need any critique, but that is obviously not true in my case!
